Assistant Professor Position

The Departments of Neurobiology and Biomedical Engineering seek to recruit a tenure-track faculty member in the area of neurophotonics with a start date of Fall 2018. The position is targeted at the level of Assistant Professor, although exceptional individuals at higher ranks will be considered.  We are interested in candidates whose research addresses fundamental issues in neuroscience and/or optical neural imaging and who show significant potential for innovation, scholarship, and commitment to excellence in research and teaching.  Candidates working on development of microscopy, optical probes, or in vivo functional imaging techniques are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants holding a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree and demonstrating an outstanding record of scientific achievement will be considered.
Northwestern University offers a rich and vibrant intellectual environment and state-of-the art support facilities.  The appointee will join a broad, interactive community including colleagues in the Interdepartmental Neuroscience program consisting of over 130 faculty drawn from the Weinberg College, the McCormick School of Engineering, the School of Communication, the Feinberg School of Medicine, the Manne Children's Research Institute, and the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab, with interactions fostered by the Center for Advanced Molecular Imaging, the Chemistry of Life Processes Institute, the Center for Genetic Medicine, Institute for Complex Systems, the Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer's Disease Center, the Center for Reproductive Science, the Center for Sleep and Circadian Biology, and the Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Applications will be accepted through our online application system. Please prepare all documents in advance, as incomplete applications cannot be saved.

1. Prepare a separate PDF (8MB max file size) for each of your documents.

Please save or "print to PDF" all of your individual documents in PDF format. This method is preferred over scanning because it retains text recognition capabilities.

2. Prepare a list of names and email addresses for your external references

Three references are required but you may include up to five. Please notify your references that detailed directions for uploading a letter of recommendation will be e-mailed directly to them. This will occur after the application has been formally submitted. These notifications are sent out in batches, so it may be a few days before your reference receives the e-mail. References will be asked to use the following naming convention:

3. Optional Sample Publications

As part of your application, you may upload one PDF (8MB max file size) that includes as many as three (3) of your publications using the following naming convention:

4. Submit Application

After compiling your PDF files and list of references, please proceed to the online application submission page. You must complete all required fields before clicking the submit button.
All information must be uploaded at the same time. The system will not save or accept incomplete applications. Applications that are complete by October 25 will be ensured full consideration. You will receive an e-mail confirmation shortly after you have submitted an application.
