Thomas Meade Elected AAAS Fellow

Neurobiology professor, Thomas J. Meade, has been elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the world’s largest general scientific society. He is one of four Northwestern faculty members (Mark Hersam, William L. Lowe Jr., and Igal Szleifer) to be honored Feb. 14 at the 2015 AAAS Annual Meeting in San Jose, California. According to AAAS, "Election as a Fellow of AAAS is an honor bestowed upon members by their peers. Fellows are recognized for meritorious efforts to advance science or its applications." Meade was chosen for his distinguished contributions to the field of bioinorganic chemistry and for pioneering bio-activated magnetic resonance imaging probes and commercializing electronic DNA and protein biosensors.

The AAAS is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing science around the world. It publishes the journal Science, as well as newsletters, books and reports. In 2014, AAAS elected 401 of its members as fellows.
